How-to guide
Library
Run the school library — catalogue, issues and returns.
A task-focused guide: follow the steps when you need to get something done.
The Library screen is used by students (browse and own loans), staff (borrow), and the librarian (full management).
The catalogue
- Add books with title, author, subject/category and other details.
- Search and filter the catalogue.
- Edit book records and mark copies available or unavailable.
Issuing a book (librarian)
- Open the book in the catalogue.
- Choose Issue.
- Select the borrower (student or staff).
- Set the due date.
- Confirm.
The loan appears in the borrower’s Library screen.
Returns and overdue
- Return a book to mark it available again.
- Track overdue loans and follow up with borrowers.
Who can do what
| Role | Catalogue | Issue/return |
|---|---|---|
| Librarian | Full management | Yes |
| Administrator | Full management | Yes |
| Student | Browse + own loans | No |
| Staff | Browse + borrow | No |
Tips
- Enter authors and categories consistently so search works well.
- Set a sensible default loan period to keep due dates consistent.
- Use the overdue view at the end of each week to chase returns.
